Judge Joe Brown Says Trump Not A Racist; Funded 1984+88 Jesse Jackson Campaigns, Gave Black Entrepreneurs Loans When Banks Wouldn't | Obama's Dad Top 10 World's Wealthiest, Oil Tycoon & Indonesian Death Squad Boss Tied To GHWB & CIA

trump dated a black model on red carpets for 2 years, bankrolled two jesse jackson presidential campaigns, gave loans on handshakes to black entrepreneurs when banks would not, partnered on al sharpton projects.  these actions across last 4+ decades are not something a racist would do.

as an anti-corruption/swamp/disinfo centrist, i parse right and left media. while trump's crass style rubs lefties wrong, after 4 years i must say: orangeman ain't no racist/bigot/xenophobe as portrayed in warped sliced/diced smear clips pushed 24/7 through the swamp media complex (demstream / bigtech / hollywood) as a tactic.

but don't take my word for it... you wont see more raw truth in 9min than judge joe brown lays out in the must see clip below.  get it straight from smart successful own-mind 'minorities' in hollywood, a black celebrity judge and the black founder of BET, who contrast the disinfo/narrative pushed across all demstream media.

what the judge outlines is beyond fascinating intrigue, it's super real, starts with trump then goes on to highlight the intel state underbelly of swamp relations and oligarch opulence and includes a bonus re obama and his stepdad, lolo seotoro's trust fund, one of the 'top 10 wealthiest in the world' oil tycoon and indonesian death squad CIA asset with ties to NWO Godfather GHWB...

MUST SEE:  Judge Joe Brown Says Trump Not A Racist; Funded 1984+88 Jesse Jackson Campaigns, Gave Black Entrepreneurs Loans When Banks Wouldnt, Details Obama's 'Top 10 Wealthiest' Dad's CIA Ties With GHWB

0:00 is trump a racist? i talked to a few black entrepreneurs in 80s/90s who couldnt get early financing, got a tip to go see donald trump, got the loan on a handshake, no paperwork. 0:55 trump in the 90s dated a black woman on red carpets for 2 years, she said 'he's not racist, he just doesnt like many people of all races, but appreciates people who are good at what they do'. trump was the finance man behind jesse jackson's two runs for potus 1984+1988. 2:18 he'll get re-elected. the constitution puts no limits on the chief exec officer... what he does relative to investigating VP biden's corruption is mandated by constitution to 'enforcing the laws of nations' incl interpol treaty with nations incl ukraine requiring we investigate, apprehend, prosecute, extradite criminal elements and criminality and 3:52 biden in 2019 on video says 'i guess i broke some laws... told the ukrainians if they didnt get rid of the anti-corruption prosecutor the U.S. would withhold 85B in loan guarantees' and implicated obama in the extortion threat. 5:28 should blacks back trump? hell yes. he's been a blue dog democrat most of his life and he usurped the gop. 5:56 potus 43+44 bush and obama are close, obama's step dad, lolo seotoro. he was intl exec of standard oil and ran the death squads for indonesian army so on his call anyone could be assassinated, so when ghwb ran the cia under ford, he got with old buddy in oil biz lolo seotoro and pulled off the hits. 7:55 business insider report obama 2017 income at 200M net after tax/deductions and 2018 at 570M+ and trump and most rich folks dont make that. why? 8:22 because when obama's step daddy lolo died, he was one of the 10-15 richest men on earth and left it all in a trust fund in indonesia so americans cant touch it. it makes obama 1/3rd benefiary on top 10 richest men on earth.
8:45 ghwb gives michele a candy when he sees them because he used to give it to barry when he was 6-7-8 years old.

demstream media spin has the power to create hate and sell the exact opposite of truth 24/7/365 as fact/reality; doing it forever.

in fact, most of what we are taught is disinformation spin, a totem pole stack of lies and half truths.  evolution isn't proven, no fossil link yet exists connecting one species to another as darwin promised we'd find and dinosaurs are a paleontological scam to bolster the as yet no-proof theory of evolution, but that's a digression for another day.

very little of what we see is truly as it seems, specially what we see/hear in movies, tv, news, documentaries and textbooks, which all compete for the fake reality trophy.  even tv game shows and pro sport events, golf, soccer, NHL, NFL, Olympics all have a history of being fixed by mafia.

much like is expected in authoritarian countries, half the news is skewed manipulated or staged, isn't organic, accurate or true.

one clear pattern noticed over a decade now is that every time dems point fingers, blame or falsely accuse opponents of xyz they end up describing in detail what themselves are doing, they are almost exclusively 'projecting' what they're doing or did on others.

in terms of flagrant corruption lies mishaps, his handlers have kept trump squeaky clean compared to most.   and while it could change anytime, despite the 24/7/365 persecution for 4 years straight trying to use a fake  salacious golden shower russian dossier to run spygate on his campaign, roundup railroad his cabinet/staff/advisors into spurious jailtime, and bogus potus impeachment, there is still not a shred of evidence he or anyone on team trump has done/said anything wrong.  no evidence of anything racist, xenophobic, misogynist, homophobic or whatever else improper.  it only seems like it after media manages to edit outtake clips and sound bites to push the us/them narrative to keep people hypnotized divided thus easily controlled...

new incriminating evidence could leak out anyday, but hasn't yet, hence why nothing sticks to teflon don and every effort to derail the disrupter backfires...

biden wrote the "1994 biden crime bill" and destroyed millions of lives. thanks to biden, the USA now has more prisoners than china. with republicans powerless, the dem trifecta of 94 could've passed anything and they didn't pass healthcare or immigration reform, they chose to pipeline millions into prison. biden/clinton legacy is the prison pipeline complex (which many on the left call systemic racism).
trump is first potus to enact prison and criminal justice reform, release thousands of non-violent from prison and begin to reverse 26 years of biden/clinton and the 1994 dem trifecta. remember, southern democrats were racist slaveowners, then confederates, then kkk/jimcrow and dixiecrats until they tried but failed to derail/oppose the civil rights acts of 1957, 60, 64 and 65. malcolm x warned blacks about voting democrat mid 60s but they know how to push the koolaid through the demstream media. ps. harris is the same dark lying cheating soul, so bad her own dad distanced himself from her. Trump 15x Condemned White Supremacy & Rejected Endorsements | Biden Has Not Personally Rejected Richard Spencer's Endorsement, White Supremacist & Alt Right Leader

[oct 2020]
as much as i can, i prioritize left liberal/progressive/swamp/bigtech sources first as they're not pro-trump and their strong one-party full-tilt biases are well known (everyday moreso) so when they spell it out, it helps me drive to deeper points faster, blow past the typical 'right wing' claims.

in september 2020, immediately after fox debate moderator chris wallace, one of many democrats acting as objective centrist 'journalists' at fox news, purposely sidelined objectivty for baseless sensationalism, overtly shielded and white-gloved the wallstreet billionaire-class candidate and grilled the other.  he pretended he wasnt aware of the facts and pressed trump to 'disavow white supremacists' as if he didn't condemn them 15x on TV over 5 years incl directly to wallace's face (see below).  it was so one-sided and dishonest, i had to do my own quick fact-check comparison to see who has and hasn't rejected white supremacists for the record.

both sides claim the other is constantly lying so you have to figure out how that works and which assertions are blatantly baseless, case by case (which nobody has time for).  and we all want to pick the least corrupt candidate whose lies are least harmful to average jane labor/middle class and not vote for a lying wallstreet swamp king like an msm autobot.  accurate pullquotes, soundbytes matter yet are seen too rarely in msm.

i've seen swamp msm distort truth and push false narratives that are at best 'half lies' across every event since mid 1980s ex. ollie north black budget shenanigans.  but msm and swamp left intel-state spindoctors (hollywood/dod) are expert at splicing pullquotes that distort truth into soundbytes that support the msm narrative and have made trump/maga the obvious 24/7 smear/gotcha target since 2015.  and even a few swamp left fact-checkers exposed how wallace/biden's 'trump never condemned' claims as 'false' (see below) yet msm keeps running the bastardized dishonest pullquotes to perpetuate a fake narrative mythology and use lies to smear and demonize the opposition.

what i found in the process is intriguing, but also amplifies the house of mirrors 'inversion' concept and leads to more rabbitholes.  there's a must-see clip of richard spencer, the cartoonishly stupid 'white supremacist' leader of the neo/fake 'alt right', who like his charlottesville co-organizer jason kessler, is a documented switch hitter 'fake right' occupy manchurian who voted for obama and now biden and trump too (as if obeying swamp dictates and soros/cia/ccp handlers who plant agent provocateurs to lead hate groups and incite violence that make the left and right look bad).

quick teaser for another day:  fox news isn't what it seems either.  it's run and staffed by swamp left intel-state, the majority of journalists and newsreaders from cavuto to wallace, and others who switched to msm outlets ex shep smith, are left liberal democrats playing-up the role of 'unbiased journalist'.

half way down in large font, to correct a false biden debate claim, swamp left gatekeeper factcheck.org cited 3 trump rebukes of racist hate groups yet failed to clarify the best most obvious 'very fine people' line in question.  msm/bigtech never plays the full context so center-left dems only ever saw the 'very fine people on both sides' pullquote/soundbyte with all key full context parsed out.

i saw the whole speech/presser live in 2017, so i saw this effort to misquote for 4 years as a foundational building block to gradually incite hatred and violence.  once we see how this was created, we can grasp how many other misquotes are spun and stacked onto each other to build and feed a fake us/them divide.

Aug. 15, 2017:  "Neo-Nazis and white nationalists... should be condemned totally" ~Trump
(in same speech, he also said 'you had very fine people on both sides... you had many people, other than neo-nazis and white nationalists... people at the rally protesting quietly the taking-down of statues... who had a permit'.  media knows the 'very fine people on both sides' line always referred to everyone but the violent criminal rioters and respective hate groups he specifically condemned: white supremacists, nazi/kkk and antifa/blm marxists.  bigtech/bigmedia knowingly spliced-out that key full context to inflame hatred/division 24/7 since charlotttesville.)

the last section is a quick compare of each their 'systemic racism' policies and verifiably racist statements.  give it a full read, through all trigger word biases.  don't let my phrasing stop you cold and miss buried gems.  if you can't get through it in one go, keep it around.  sooner better as links will get pulled.

at the very bottom is a footnote of my philosophical views incl politics summarized and how ihavent shifted since 1987/99, the gop+dems did.

Charlottesville Leader Richard Spencer Endorses Joe Biden
AUG 24, 2020

As the Joe Biden campaign released a list of former Republicans who have endorsed the Democratic nominee for the November election, white nationalist Richard Spencer — an organizer of the Charlottesville riot and a former supporter of President Donald Trump — announced his support for Biden, as well. This endorsement is particularly embarrassing for Biden, since he claimed that he is running for president to "restore the soul of America," specifically to repudiate Trump's alleged support for the Charlottesville march.

Biden's campaign rejected the endorsement, while Biden himself has yet to address it. Author and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza argued that Spencer's ideology fits better with progressivism, especially the Democratic President Woodrow Wilson, than it does with Trump.

"I plan to vote for Biden and a straight democratic ticket. It's not based on 'accelerationism' or anything like that; the liberals are clearly more competent people," Spencer tweeted on Sunday.

...
Early on Monday morning, Spencer tweeted a picture of himself with the message, "I'm on Team Joe!"

...
Biden has repeatedly condemned Trump for saying that there were "good people on both sides" of the Charlottesville demonstrations, often insinuating and outright claiming that the president praised white nationalists like Spencer. In reality, Trump condemned the white nationalists, explaining that he meant to praise the Americans who protested the removal of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

Andrew Bates, rapid response director at the Biden campaign, rushed to condemn Spencer's endorsement.

"When Joe Biden says we are in a battle for the soul of our nation against vile forces of hate who have come crawling out from under rocks, you are the epitome of what he means," Bates tweeted at Spencer. "What you stand for is absolutely repugnant. Your support is 10,000% percent unwelcome here."

...
D'Souza argued that Spencer's endorsement belies the idea that Trump represents a white supremacist platform.

"Anyone on the Left who claims white supremacists are for Trump with nothing more than an old photo or anecdote to prove it must now contend with the fact that the poster boy of white supremacy, Richard Spencer, has announced he's voting Biden & straight Democratic ticket," D'Souza tweeted.

...

In July, D'Souza released an interview with Richard Spencer, showing that the white nationalist's views are more compatible with Woodrow Wilson-era progressivism, rather than modern conservatism like that of President Trump. Tellingly, Spencer told D'Souza that rights do not come from God — Spencer is an atheist — but rather from group representation. "No individual has a right outside of a collective community," he said. Spencer has also proven rather willing to embrace socialism in the name of white identity politics.

While the Democrats of today obviously disagree with the blatant racism of Richard Spencer and Woodrow Wilson, Spencer's decision to endorse Biden and the Democrats seems rather noteworthy. Spencer's core beliefs are incompatible with Trump's support for the Founding Fathers and America's ideals. Perhaps he has realized that the identity politics of the Left better represents his vision, even though Team Biden rejects him, as did Trump.

https://www.factcheck.org/2020/02/trump-has-condemned-white-supremacists/
Trump Has Condemned White Supremacists - FactCheck.org
February 11, 2020
even left-gatekeeper and swamp factcheck.org admits trump has condemned all racist hate groups incl kkk nazi antifa and white supremacists...
Former Vice President Joe Biden wrongly claimed President Donald Trump has "yet once to condemn white supremacy, the neo-Nazis."

Trump drew criticism for his condemnation of "hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides" after a rally organized by a white nationalist in Charlottesville in 2017, and for saying there were "very fine people on both sides." But, contrary to Biden's claim, the president twice specifically condemned white supremacists and neo-Nazis, and he has repeated that condemnation since.

On ABC's "This Week," Biden was asked what the consequences would be of a Trump victory in 2020. Biden responded that Trump would "go on dividing us based on race."

...
Biden's comment that Trump has "yet once to condemn white supremacy" is not accurate.

Let's revisit Trump's comments in the days after the Charlottesville rally. That rally turned violent, and one person, Heather Heyer, was killed and many others injured, when a man with a history of making racist comments plowed his car into a group of counterprotesters.
The day of that incident Trump said, "We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence, on many sides. On many sides." Trump said he had spoken to Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, and "we agreed that the hate and the division must stop, and must stop right now. We have to come together as Americans with love for our nation and true affection — really — and I say this so strongly — true affection for each other."

Two days later, on Aug. 14, 2017, Trump issued a statement from the White House, and referred to "KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans."
...
During a press conference the following day, Aug. 15, 2017, Trump explained his initial "many sides" comment.

"You had a group on one side that was bad," Trump said. "And you had a group on the other side that was also very violent." He added, "I've condemned neo-Nazis. I've condemned many different groups, but not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch."
...
So, contrary to Biden's claim that Trump has "yet once to condemn white supremacy, the neo-Nazis," in the course of two days, Trump did it twice.

Trump, Aug. 14, 2017: Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans.

Trump, Aug. 15, 2017: I'm not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally.
Nor was that the last time Trump condemned white supremacy by name.

After nearly two dozen people were killed on Aug. 3, 2019, in a shooting at a Wal-Mart in El Paso, Trump said: "The shooter in El Paso posted a manifesto online consumed by racist hate. In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry, and white supremacy. These sinister ideologies must be defeated. Hate has no place in America. Hatred warps the mind, ravages the heart, and devours the soul. We have asked the FBI to identify all further resources they need to investigate and disrupt hate crimes and domestic terrorism — whatever they need."

WATCH: Trump condemns white supremacy—media asks why he won't condemn white supremacy | The Post Millennial
September 30, 2020 1:08 PM
2 Min Read

Media will not stop asking the President and his staff whether or not the President condemns white supremacy and white supremacist hate groups. This after Trump signed a resolution stating that his administration would prosecute the KKK as domestic terrorists. Press Secretary McEnany gave a detailed account of Trump's efforts to combat white supremacy, yet media continues to ask why he doesn't combat it or condemn it.

A White House correspondent asks if the President condemns white supremacy in all its forms. McEnany says yes, and gives quotes from the president as to his condemnation. That correspondent then says "just to clear it up, can you make a declarative statement that the president denounces it." She clears that up. Another White House correspondent then asks why the president won't denounce white supremacy....

Here's a compilation of Donald Trump condemning white supremacy and the KKK. The media keeps asking if he will disavow white supremacy. He keeps disavowing it, over and over again. Yet the media keeps asking why he won't disavow them.

Here is a compilation of @realDonaldTrump condemning white supremacy at least 17 times. pic.twitter.com/nttX9vvVtw
— James Klüg (@realJamesKlug) October 1, 2020

Trump  denounced white supremacy after the events of Charlottesville in 2019, and after mass shootings. Kellyanne Conway, press secretary at the time, reiterated that.Media outlets persist criticizing Trump for not condemning white supremacists, but the fact is that there is video evidence to show that he did so not only during Tuesday night's debates, but also four years ago, and directly to the same moderator who set him up last night.

2016: Trump denounced white supremacy to Chris Wallace
2020: Chris Wallace tries the same HOAX, this time talking over Trump

See it for yourself. It was a setup by Racist Hoaxer Chris Wallace! pic.twitter.com/BbxsJs2BTI
— Ali Alexander ? (@ali) September 30, 2020

The video shows clearly Trump disavowing the KKK and other white supremacists not just once in 2016, but twice.

Back in 2016, Trump can be seen on the video saying:
"I totally disavow the Klu Klux Klan. I totally disavow David Duke. I've been doing it now for about two weeks."
"Take a look at my Twitter account."

Then, on Tuesday night in the middle of the debates, Chris Wallace, the moderator of the debates, asks Trump yet again:
"Are you willing tonight to condemn white supremacists and militia groups…"
...
During the debate, not once was the other presidential candidate, Joe Biden, asked the same or any similar question, nor was Trump's response acknowledged by Wallace or Biden.

But it was just ten years ago when Biden was praising KKK member and Democratic Senator Robert Byrd as a "mentor" and "friend." The Trump campaign is serving up the reminder:

"To me...for a lot of us, he was a mentor and a friend, and for a lot of us, he was a guide," Biden said at Byrd's funeral.
...
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who recently accused Senate Republicans of being in on the murder of George Floyd, had similar things to say.

"Senator Byrd's service and leadership are more than worthy to be remembered for many generations to come," she praised. "He was a great American patriot." -Nancy Pelosi

Last Year, When a 'Unite the Right' Leader Was An Occupier Who Voted for Obama
August 14, 2017

'Unite the Right' is not uniting the 'right', they are uniting extremists who say they are on the 'right'. One thing they are not is right about much.

'Unite the Right' organized the march of radicals in Charlottesville this past weekend. They were joined by as many as 12 groups totaling between 200 and 500 protesters. There were also reportedly an equal number of leftist radicals.

The two most well-known leaders of 'Unite the Right' are Jason Kessler and Richard Spencer.

Spencer is famous for his heil Trump speech and his proud self-characterization as alt-right. Kessler is famous for being a long-time leftist who supported the Occupy communist/socialist movement and voted for Barack Obama.

"he [Kessler] favors legal access to abortion—partly to reduce the number of blacks and Hispanics," Wood wrote. 'Smart people are not using abortion as birth control … It is the unintelligent and blacks and Hispanics who use abortion as birth control,' he said recently on AltRight.com's YouTube channel. 'This can be something that can be a great boon for our people, our race.'

Neither Kessler nor Spencer represent the views of conservatives, Republicans, or libertarians. They are fascists with an opposing ideology on race to their fascist and communist kin in the Antifa and Black Lives Matter groups.

These people are the white supremacists giving everyone on the right a bad name.
They must be disavowed so they can be relegated to ignominy. Some of what they say is accurate but don't be fooled.

Extremists can call themselves whatever they want but we need to unite and we can't do it if we follow either sides' extremists.   ...

Biden was friends, praised and partnered with six southern segregationist Dixiecrat-Democrats:
  • He has lauded South Carolina Sen. Strom Thurmond — who Biden called "one of my closest friends" — and Sen. Jesse Helms of North Carolina, who Biden worked with on legislation to prevent court-ordered desegregation busing. He has also expressed admiration for Sens. John Stennis, James O. Eastland and Herman Talmadge. He has even praised George Wallace, an Alabama governor and segregationist presidential candidate.  All southern segregationist Democrats.

Biden, like most dem leadership, has special praise for a former Klansman, his friend and mentor, the longest serving member of Congress ever, the highly-revered segregationist Democrat, Sen. Robert Byrd, who with Al Gore Sr. partook in a lengthy filibuster against the 1964 Civil Rights Act:
  1. Robert C Byrd elevated the Senate.  (j. biden)
  2. I never called Senator Byrd "Senator," I always called him "Leader".  (j. biden)

Joe Biden's praise for segregationists spans decades | Joe Biden didn't just compromise with segregationists; he fought for their causes.

The following references are written by left liberals for dem-run media outlets, which should drive the point home, and bypass any 'right wing conspiracy' claims.

takeaways article #1:
  • Over the years, Biden has repeatedly praised segregationists like Stennis, Eastland and Thurmond.  At the 1985 birthday in DeKalb, Miss., Biden effusively praised Stennis without reservation. "He's an opponent without hate, a friend without treachery, a statesman without pretense, a victim without any murmuring, a public official without vice, a private citizen without wrong, a neighbor, as you all know, without hypocrisy, a man without guilt," Biden said. "A senator whom future senators can study with profit for as long as there is an America."

  • Just two years earlier in 1983, Stennis had voted against making Martin Luther King Jr. Day a national holiday—the only southern Democrat to do so.

  • Biden's speech, the full transcript of which Scribd user Andy William uploaded to the site on May 22, drew little notice in the mid-1980s, not all U.S. senators have been so lucky after praising segregationists at their birthday parties.  Biden recently praised the "civility" that segregationists like Eastland and former U.S. Sen. Herman Talmadge of Georgia showed him.

  takeaways article #2:
  • In a 1975 Senate hearing, the legendary civil rights lawyer Jack Greenberg, longtime director of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, took Biden to task for sponsoring a bill that would limit the power of courts to order school desegregation with busing. The bill "heaves a brick through the window of school integration," said Greenberg, one of the lawyers who had won the Brown v. Board of Education case that ended legal school segregation 21 years earlier. And according to Greenberg, Biden was the man with his hand on the brick.

  • Biden led the charge on an issue that kept black students away from the classrooms of white students. His work advanced a more palatable version of the "separate but equal" doctrine.

  • Co-sponsors included segregationist Sens. Jesse Helms, R-N.C., and Strom Thurmond, R-S.C.

Joe Biden's Praise for Segregationists Spans Decades
Jun 28, 2019

Even as the sun glistened upon his thinning hair one bright Mississippi day in DeKalb, Miss., U.S. Sen. Joe Biden stood out as the youngest of the senators speaking at U.S. Sen. John C. Stennis' birthday party. It was Aug. 3, 1985, and the 42-year-old Biden was a rising star in the Democratic Party. With the 1988 presidential race coming up, some hoped that he might help lead it out of the wilderness of the Reagan years.

Despite Biden's reputation as a northeast liberal, the young Delawarean wowed the southern crowd as he drew from the Confederate mythos to pile praise upon Stennis, who was known for his decades of resistance to civil rights. Biden compared him to Stonewall Jackson, a fabled Confederate military commander known for his tactical prowess.

"It was said of Stonewall Jackson, 'He is an avalanche from an unexpected quarter, a thunderbolt from a clear sky, and yet his character will make him a stone wall more than any man I've ever known,'" Biden said, reciting a quote that a 1920 book attributes to lecturer, and Stonewall Jackson's aide, James Power Smith.

"And Mr. Chairman," Biden continued, "When you stand on the floor of the Senate, and you point your finger, and you raise your voice, it's like a bolt from a clear sky. And when you speak, everyone listens. And as all of my colleagues have said here today, he truly does stand like a stonewall; he is the rockbed of integrity of the United States Congress."

Even in the company of other segregationists like South Carolina Sen. Strom Thurmond and Arizona Sen. Barry Goldwater, Biden did not mention Stennis' storied opposition to civil rights.

Biden on Busing: 'A Liberal Trainwreck'

A decade earlier, though, Biden worked with Stennis and other segregationists like Thurmond and Sen. Jim Eastland, Mississippi's other U.S. senator, to fight a key segregation program: busing, which the government used to send children across district lines to make schools more integrated.

Southern Dixiecrats and Republicans had long opposed busing in their region, where the federal government had mandated it most heavily. But as the practice spread, whites in wealthy suburbs like those in Delaware began pushing back. Some had moved to the suburbs to send their kids to what they considered a "good school," which usually meant mostly white, and opposed their kids being bused elsewhere to make schools more equal.

#"Southern politicians who had been pushing against desegregation in the 1950s realized, 'Oh, OK, now that it's hit the doorstep of the northeasterners; they don't like it any more than we do,'" Ralph W. Eubanks, a southern studies professor at the University of Mississippi, told the Jackson Free Press in April. "And these political alliances began to form. So that's why you had someone like Joe Biden making alliances with Strom Thurmond, James Eastland and John Stennis."

#In 1973, Biden ran on a pro-civil-rights platform. Just a year earlier, though, segregationist Alabama Gov. George Wallace had won the Florida Democratic presidential primary while running on an anti-busing platform. As the concern among white parents about busing grew beyond the Deep South, even some northeast liberal Democrats like Biden began criticizing it.

#By 1975, Biden thought of busing as a "liberal train wreck," as he wrote in his 2007 memoir, and found himself huddled with a group of Dixiecrats, planning how they might introduce anti-busing legislation that could pass in the Senate.

#"The new integration plans being offered are really just quota systems to assure a certain number of blacks, Chicanos, or whatever in each school," Biden told a Delaware newspaper in 1975. "That, to me, is the most racist concept you can come up with. Who the hell do we think we are, that the only way a black man or woman can learn is if they rub shoulders with my white child?"

#Around that same time, all the way across the country in Berkley, Calif., a schoolgirl and future U.S. senator named Kamala Harris was reaping busing's benefits. With an African American father and a mother from India, Harris was the first in her family to go to an integrated school district.

#'That Little Girl Was Me'

#All these years later, on a Democratic presidential debate stage on Thursday night, Harris took aim at Biden, not only for his recent praise for the "civility" that segregationists like Eastland and former U.S. Sen. Herman Talmadge of Georgia showed him, but for his efforts to kill the program that integrated her school.

"Vice President Biden, I do not believe you are a racist, and I agree with you, when you commit yourself to the importance of finding common ground," Harris said. "But I also believe—and it's personal—it was actually hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country."

It was not only his praise of segregationists that bothered her, though, Harris said, but his efforts to end the very program that ensured her an integrated school experience.

#"There was a little girl in California who was bused to school. That little girl was me," she said.

#Biden deflected the criticism, claiming that his opposition to busing was about federally mandated busing. That decision, he said, should have been left up to states and local governments as it was in Berkley—not enforced by the federal government.

#"The fact is that, in terms of busing, the busing, I never—you would have been able to go to school the same exact way because it was a local decision made by your city council," Biden said. "That's fine. That's one of the things I argued for. We should be breaking down these lines."

#That "local control" argument both invoke the segregationists' "state's rights" argument—the racist Citizens' Council's logo was designed around the words "Racial Integrity" and "State's Rights"—even as it recalls Eastland's opposition to "forced busing ordered by federal courts," and Stennis' suggestion, in a 1973 letter to a constituent, that busing only existed to satisfy technocrats in the nation's capital.

#"I am opposed to the busing of schoolchildren for the sole purpose of overcoming racial imbalance," Stennis wrote in that letter. "This unreasonable busing is injurious to our school children and only benefits some Washington socio-political statistician."

#Stennis' opposition to busing was indicative of the mood in Deep South states, which showed no desire to implement busing on their own terms—a point Harris made Thursday night.

#"There are moments in history where states fail to support the civil rights of people," she said.

#In April, the Jackson Free Press spoke to Millsaps College civil rights historian Stephanie Rolph, the author of the 2018 book, ""Resisting Equality: The Citizens' Council, 1954-1989." Even today, she said, Biden would likely face pushback from some white voters if he apologized for his position on busing.

#"It would be excellent if Biden could recognize the political moment he was in at that time and why he realizes that was an erroneous position. But that sort of contextual explanation for that for someone like him at the national level also threatens to undermine certain constituencies that would not appreciate his apology for that, because they might not think that anti-busing legislation was a bad thing," she said.

#Thursday night was not the first time Harris has pointed to America's history of segregated public schools. In a speech in New Orleans last year, Harris praised the city for the election of its first African American woman mayor as evidence that America is better than the troubles of the Trump era.

#"I know we are better than this because, less than 60 years ago, about four miles up the road, Ruby Bridges needed federal marshals to escort her to school," Harris said last August, referring to the civil-rights activist who, as a 6-year-old child, faced abuse and harassment when she became one of the first African American children to attend an integrated school in New Orleans.

#"And yet today, Mayor Latoya Cantrell is the first woman—and first black woman—in history to lead this city. That's our American identity."

#'A Man Without Guilt'

#On Thursday night, Biden denied Harris' charge that he had praised segregationists.

#"It's a mischaracterization of my position across the board. I did not praise racists. That is not true," Biden said on the debate stage.

#Over the years, though, Biden has repeatedly praised segregationists like Stennis, Eastland and Thurmond.

#At the 1985 birthday party in DeKalb, Miss., Biden effusively praised Stennis without reservation.

#"He's an opponent without hate, a friend without treachery, a statesman without pretense, a victim without any murmuring, a public official without vice, a private citizen without wrong, a neighbor, as you all know, without hypocrisy, a man without guilt," Biden said. "A senator whom future senators can study with profit for as long as there is an America."

Just two years earlier in 1983, Stennis had voted against making Martin Luther King Jr. Day a national holiday—the only southern Democrat to do so. Just three other Democrats, along with 18 conservative Republicans, had also voted against the holiday.

In 1982, though, Stennis voted to extend the Voting Rights Act, which he had fiercely opposed in the 1960s.

#In a 2006 interview with Jackson Free Press editor Donna Ladd in Jackson during an earlier presidential bid, Biden recalled meeting with Stennis on the day of his retirement. Stennis, Biden said, told him that even though he had opposed it, the Civil Rights Movement "freed my soul."

#Still, Stennis publicly admitted no remorse even as he was retiring, The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported after interviewing him in 1988.

#"Stennis offers no apologies for once fighting the lost racial causes of his beloved Mississippi. ... And as that career comes to a close, the 87-year-old patriarch of the Senate feels no need to offer excuses for having 'done my duty,'" the report reads.

#Though Biden's speech, the full transcript of which Scribd user Andy William uploaded to the site on May 22, drew little notice in the mid-1980s, not all U.S. senators have been so lucky after praising segregationists at their birthday parties.

#U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, a Republican who took over Stennis' seat after he retired in 1989, saw his career upended in 2002 because of comments he made at segregationist Thurmond's 100th birthday party.

#"When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him," Lott said. "We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over the years, either."

#Thurmond ran for president in 1948 as the nominee for the State's Rights Democratic Party, but won in just four states: Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and his own state of South Carolina. Though he first served in the U.S. Senate as a Democrat, he switched to the Republican Party after Democratic President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964.

#Lott's remarks at Thurmond's party drew such a backlash that Lott, who was the U.S. Senate Majority whip at the time, stepped down from his leadership position.   [yet somehow Biden survives a litany of far worse comments and proudly authors/advocates/pushes the 1994 Biden 3-Strikes-For-Life Crime Bill.]

#At Stennis' birthday party in 1985, though, Biden opened with a joke about Thurmond, then the chairman of the Senate Judiciary under whom he served. Thurmond, he joked, might announce a second run for the presidency.

#"It's nice to be here, Mr. Chairman, on the day that Strom Thurmond announces for president of the United States of America ... I'm not sure, I think maybe Strom had the right idea, of leaving the party when he did, because now, you know, he's chairman of the judiciary committee, and I serve at Strom Thurmond's bidding," Biden said.

#Biden also told the crowd that Stennis befriended him shortly after he joined the Senate.

#"John Stennis, who knew little of this northern boy who was supposedly a liberal, who in fact he had never heard of, John Stennis befriended me," he said.

#'He Won Their Hearts'

#A year after the Mississippi birthday party, Biden visited Mississippi's sister state, Alabama. There, Howell Heflin, an Alabama Democratic state senator who had been at Stennis' birthday celebration, introduced Biden to a Democratic crowd, telling them how he had "enthralled" the Mississippians.

#"He won their hearts and proved he ... understands the South," Heflin said.

#Reporting on that trip on March 2, 1986, The Morning News in Wilmington, Del., reported that Biden "offered the crowd a bit of absolution, telling them that they had confronted their racial problems and dealt with them and, while everything was perhaps not perfect, apologies were no longer needed."

#"A black man has a better chance in Birmingham than in Philadelphia or New York," Biden said.

#Biden adjusted his regular stump speech for the Alabama crowd. The Morning News reported that he dropped a reference to his youthful participation in civil-rights demonstrations in Delaware and removed a reference to Birmingham Police Commissioner T. Eugene "Bull" Connor, who had set loose police dogs on civil-rights demonstrators in the 1960s.

#Biden continued to insist that the segregationists he worked with on busing in the 1970s had truly had a change of heart. When Thurmond died in 2003, Biden spoke at his funeral.

"I believe that change came to him easily," Biden told the mourners. "I believe he welcomed it, because I watched others of his era fight that change and never ultimately change. It would be humbling to think that I was among those who had some influence on his decision, but I know better."

In April, Eubanks told the Jackson Free Press that he does not think "any of them really changed." Rather, he said, they responded to the changing political climate in the 1970s and '80s.

#"I think they were not as outwardly racist and I think it became less acceptable for them to be so openly and blatantly racist," Eubanks said. "I think their racism was sublimated. It was not expressed outwardly. I can't really see into their hearts to know if they really changed or not.  Yes, they voted to renew the Voting Rights Act.  But at that point, they really didn't have any choice. That's not evidence of real change and atonement.  It's more, 'We know the politics have changed, so we're going to go along with it.' And that's different.  I think Biden read that as that they had changed, rather than confronting actual evidence that they had."

#Six months after Thurmond's death, 78-year-old Essie Mae Washington-Williams publicly disclosed that she was Thurmond's daughter, born out of wedlock to a black mother. Though Thurmond had supported her and paid for her college education at a historically black college, the old-fashioned segregationist had kept his daughter's identity hidden while he was alive out of fear that it would harm his reputation if the public knew he secretly had a black daughter.

#Years later, South Carolina added her name to a list of his children on his memorial at the state capitol.

Biden's campaign has not responded to multiple requests for comment from the Jackson Free Press since April.

Joe Biden didn't just compromise with segregationists. He fought for their cause in schools, experts say - nbcnews
June 25, 2019 By Janell Ross

In a 1975 Senate hearing, the legendary civil rights lawyer Jack Greenberg had something to say to freshman Sen. Joe Biden.

Greenberg, longtime director of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, took Biden to task for sponsoring a bill that would limit the power of courts to order school desegregation with busing. It was a move that followed the wishes of many of Biden's white constituents in Delaware.

The bill "heaves a brick through the window of school integration," said Greenberg, one of the lawyers who had won the Brown v. Board of Education case that ended legal school segregation 21 years earlier. And according to Greenberg, Biden was the man with his hand on the brick.

Biden's role in fighting student busing more than four decades ago has received renewed attention after the 76-year-old presidential candidate touted his ability to compromise with segregationists during his long Senate career. Biden said he disagreed strongly with these Southerners' views but needed to work with them to get things done. Biden's comments set off a firestorm among his political rivals and some political analysts, who described his language as offensive and anachronistic.

But political experts and education policy researchers say Biden, a supporter of civil rights in other arenas, did not simply compromise with segregationists — he also led the charge on an issue that kept black students away from the classrooms of white students. His legislative work against school integration advanced a more palatable version of the "separate but equal" doctrine and undermined the nation's short-lived effort at educational equality, legislative and education history experts say.

"Biden, who I think has been good overall on civil rights, was a leader on anti-busing," Rucker Johnson, author of the book "Children of the Dream: Why School Integration Works," said. "A leader on giving America the language to oppose it despite it being the most effective means of school integration at that time."

That, of course, is not how Biden sees it.

On Saturday, Biden defended his work with segregationist senators in an interview with the Rev. Al Sharpton on MSNBC: "You got to deal with what's in front of you and what was in front of you was a bunch of racists and we had to defeat them."

After this article was originally published, Biden's national press secretary, Jamal Brown, emailed a statement saying that Biden was never opposed to integration, and in fact supported the concept. But he said Biden opposed Delaware's busing methods, and included statements from black activists in Delaware who also opposed busing.

In March, Biden's spokesman, Bill Russo, said the former vice president believes he was right to oppose busing.

"He never thought busing was the best way to integrate schools in Delaware — a position which most people now agree with," Russo told The Washington Post in March. "As he said during those many years of debate, busing would not achieve equal opportunity. And it didn't."

In 1975, Biden was representing a state where one of the first major urban school desegregation plans had been ordered by a court. Many white parents in the Wilmington area were angry. In response, Biden sponsored not just the bill limiting courts' power but also an amendment to an appropriations bill that barred the federal government from withholding funding from schools that remained effectively segregated.

The amendment went beyond the busing issue, affecting school systems that effectively separated students by race whether or not they used busing. Co-sponsors included segregationist Sens. Jesse Helms, R-N.C., and Strom Thurmond, R-S.C. The amendment passed the Senate on a 50-43 vote, including majorities of both Democrats and Republicans. (Biden was not alone among northern Democrats who supported it — in that group, 14 supported the amendment and 26 opposed it, according to the Congressional Quarterly.)

When Biden rose to defend the amendment, he said that the "assignment of schools and/or classes because of a person's race ... is a counterproductive concept that is causing more harm to equal education than any benefit."

Biden's anti-integration efforts didn't end in 1975. Two years later, he co-authored a bill that barred federal courts from ordering busing plans unless courts found evidence of discriminatory intent. That legislation failed.

A 1977 report on school desegregation by the Civil Rights Commission, a federal agency, described Biden's activities as stymieing school integration.

Federal data analyzed by Johnson and other researchers shows that busing succeeded in narrowing racial achievement gaps before frontal assaults and legislative maneuvers by Biden and others rendered it easier for districts under court order to be released from integration demands. America's school integration efforts lasted, all told, no more than 15 years, Johnson said.

Johnson has reviewed data on more than 10,000 students from this period, who were studied for decades afterward. He found that black adults who spent the most time in integrated schools attained more education, completed college, maintained better health and earned higher incomes than peers who spent less time or no time in integrated schools. All of this happened without any reduction in white student grades or outcomes, the data shows. And white adults who attended integrated schools reported better understanding of issues affecting nonwhite Americans.

"Integration is a social good which also happens to make for high-quality education," said Johnson, an economist and professor of public policy at the University of California, Berkeley. "It is also the one thing that has worked but the one thing most people don't want to talk about and many people fight if we even try."

Biden was particularly effective in fighting integration because he did not use the overtly racist language of the segregationists, who warned of race mixing and black inferiority, Johnson said. Instead, Biden, along with other centrists and liberals, talked about "forced busing," "local control" and "parents' rights."

At the time, Biden said the solution was not busing but creating better schools everywhere, something the country has failed to accomplish.

That idea has shown up all over the country in recent years, in school assignment fights from Brooklyn to Birmingham. It is dressed up but essentially an argument for separate but equal schools, Johnson said.

Apart from the busing issue, Biden developed a legislative history in other areas key to black Americans over his decades in the Senate. It includes support for fair housing, employment and voting rights, as well as credit and lending equality and opposition to the apartheid in South Africa.

Today, Biden has an army of defenders in the Congressional Black Caucus and in Democratic political circles.

Former Rep. Lee Hamilton, D-Ind., described Biden as an inclusive, energetic supporter of civil rights — and said the busing issue was an exception.

"He disappointed, if you would, mainstream progressive Democrats, including me, and yet I considered him an ally in most fights and was always glad to have him on my side," Hamilton said.

But to critics, Biden's cozy familiarity with deal-making among white men does not pair well with the often uncomfortable, sometimes disruptive, work of creating equality.

"Is this the model of politics and government that he's operating in today?" said Brenda Carter, director of the Reflective Democracy Campaign, which aims to change the demographics of political power.

These critics want to know whether Biden would be an ally in this fight for equality. While children of color comprise the majority of students in public K-12 classrooms, most attend low-quality, highly segregated schools.

"For those of us who didn't have any power and had no seat at the bargaining table, this is part of the reason we are so deeply in need of bodacious, radical reforms today," said LaTosha Brown, co-founder of Black Voters Matter, which advocates for expanded voting access.

Biden's use of "not segregationists but avowed racists as a reference point for how you work across the aisle," she said, "begs the question of literally who is he trying to appeal to."
